Valletta, Malta · founded 1974
An argument is only
as good as its evidence.
Aldermere is a small college for people who intend to do the work itself — the investigation, the conservation plan, the draft, the negotiation — under the eye of someone who has done it for a living.
The college
Small by design, and unapologetic about it.
Aldermere was founded in 1974 in a single room on Triq ir-Repubblika by three people who had left larger institutions for the same reason: the students were being taught about the work instead of being made to do it. Fifty years on, the college still admits fewer than two hundred people a year.
Our programmes sit in the space between a university and a trade: rigorous about evidence, impatient with abstraction, and judged on what a graduate can produce. Most of our students arrive with a degree already and leave with a portfolio.

Why here
The city is part of the syllabus.
Valletta is a small capital with an unusual concentration of courts, ministries, archives, newsrooms and heritage sites inside a walled city you can cross in twenty minutes. Our students are in those institutions during their programmes, not after them.
It also means the college can be small without being isolated: most of the people who teach here practise within walking distance.
